Local Lions clubs and international foundation provide $134K for Medicine Hat hospital services

The funding will allow for the purchase of 16 electric beds for 5 North, replacing beds that are currently about 30 years old, as well as two cataract stretchers for Ophthalmology to help increase the volume of eye surgeries.

The Health Foundation says the local Lions clubs identified mental health and eye care as areas of need in the community and worked together to leverage a larger gift through the Lions Clubs International Foundation’s matching grant program.

The announcement was attended by Health Foundation executive director Heather Bach, MLA Chelsae Petrovic, who spoke on behalf of Minister of Mental Health and Addiction Justin Wright, Lions Clubs International Foundation representative Marvin Chambers, local Lions Clubs representative Bob Booth, and 5 North manager Sarah Nagy.

Community leaders, including city councillors, members of the Medicine Hat Police Service, and members of the Health Foundation’s board of directors, also attended the event.

The Medicine Hat, Redcliff and Irvine Lions clubs have supported the Health Foundation since its inception and continue to be significant donors, according to the foundation.

The Lions Clubs identify needs within their communities and work together to address them, according to the organization.
