Alberta’s population gets bigger as Canada’s gets smaller

Statistics Canada says Alberta’s population continues to grow. 

It says that the population in the second quarter of 2026 is 5,057,077 people. 

That is 8,926 more people than lived here in the first quarter of this year, and 46,999 more than in the second quarter of last year. 

Alberta ranks fourth in total population among the provinces after Ontario, Quebec, and British Columbia. 

Canada’s population sits at 41,417,056. That is down by 55,025 from the first quarter of this year and down 187,499 people compared to the same time a year ago.
