Aquatic facilities in Medicine Hat reopen after temporary closure following Echo Dale Park incident

The City of Medicine Hat has reopened most of its aquatic facilities after a temporary closure that allowed staff to access support services following the recent tragedy at Echo Dale Regional Park.

The city announced on Wednesday that all municipally operated aquatic facilities, with the exception of Echo Dale Regional Park, have resumed regular operations.

Facilities that have reopened include Kinsmen Aquatic Park at Big Marble Go Centre, Crestwood Pool, Strathcona Pool and Hill Pool.

City-operated pools were temporarily closed to allow staff time to access supports and resources following the incident at the park.

“We appreciate the patience and understanding of our community as our staff work through this difficult time,” the city said in a statement.

While aquatic facilities have reopened, future service interruptions may be required as it continues to support employees and accommodate their needs.

As Echo Dale Regional Park remains closed, the city said additional updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

The closures followed an incident at Echo Dale Regional Park on Monday involving an 11-year-old boy, who was taken to hospital and later died.
