A new photography exhibit celebrating 30 years of the Medicine Hat JazzFest is now on display in downtown Medicine Hat.

The exhibit, featuring nearly 100 photographs, was curated by local photographer Joan Kennedy and former JazzFest executive and artistic director Lyle Rebbeck.

The collection is on display at Note on Second Street and highlights memorable moments from the festival’s three-decade history.

In a statement accompanying the exhibit, the photographers say the collection celebrates JazzFest’s role in bringing the community together through music, dance and shared experiences.

The exhibit features images of performers from around the world, local artists, unique festival venues and the audiences who have supported the event over the years.

The photographers say the images reflect how the festival has become a fixture in the community, taking place in venues ranging from theatres and rooftops to airport hangars while helping foster a lasting appreciation for jazz and live music in Medicine Hat.

They also note the collection honours the volunteers, sponsors and festival-goers who have helped sustain the event throughout its history.

The photographs represent a small cross-section of JazzFest’s 30-year journey and the work of many photographers who have documented the festival along the way.

The exhibit runs through the end of August.

An opening reception is scheduled for June 16 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., featuring a performance by the Christian Ferguson Duo.

Medicine Hat Jazzfest 2026 runs from June 16-21 at several venues throughout the city.
