Jun 9, 2026 | 2:28 PM

A Medicine Hat man is facing charges after police responded to an early morning break and enter at a detached garage in the city’s southeast end, which led to a brief foot chase and arrest.

Medicine Hat police were called to a burglary alarm at a property in the 400 block of 4 Street SE at about 6:16 a.m. on June 8, where a keyholder reported an individual was seen on surveillance footage attempting to force entry into the garage.

Officers said they arrived and found significant damage to the rear door of the property.

Police had contained the area and searched the property, locating a male suspect hiding beside the garage, who fled on foot after being advised he was under arrest.

A short foot pursuit followed, and police arrested 35-year-old Tristan Skappak of Medicine Hat without further incident.

Charges against Skappak include break and enter to commit mischief and resisting arrest.

Skappak was held for a judicial interim release hearing before being released and is scheduled to appear in Medicine Hat provincial court on June 18.
