Medicine Hat College has announced the appointment of former city administrator Robert Nicolay to its Board of Governors on Thursday, bringing experience in municipal government, in the energy sector and private business.

Nicolay currently serves as president of Aurora Borealis Consulting, where he provides strategic advisory services focused on governance, organizational performance and business transformation.

Previously served as chief administrative officer for the City of Medicine Hat, Nicolay has also held senior leadership roles, including chief executive officer of ENMAX and a private oil company he founded, while also serving as contract city manager for both Medicine Hat and Grande Prairie.

His past governance experience also includes serving on the board at Mount Royal University.

Board chair Sarah MacKenzie said Nicolay’s leadership background and experience in municipal and corporate governance will support the board’s work as the college advances its priorities.

Nicolay said he is looking forward to serving on the board during what he described as both exciting and challenging times for post-secondary education in Alberta.

The college also announced the reappointment of Ebenezer Asare to a second term on the board.

The Board of Governors oversees the institution and provides guidance to help ensure the college meets the needs of students, employees and the broader community.
