City of Medicine Hat launches second phase of public engagement for Riverside Corridor Enhancement Project

The City says that Riverside business owners and residents will continue to be engaged directly as those most impacted by this project.

“Third Street North is a key connection through Riverside, and future improvements need to reflect the diverse needs of those who live, work, and travel through this neighbourhood every day,” the City of Medicine Hat’s Managing Director of Development and Infrastructure Pat Bohan said.

“Initial feedback has already helped inform revisions to the proposed design,” he added.

“Phase 2 is a chance to continue that conversation in more detail. Community input remains a critical part of this process as we refine project options and evaluate next steps before any decisions are made.”

Project materials are available through the Riverside Corridor Enhancement Project page.

It includes roadway history, a 50 per cent design document and a fly-through video, explanation of why this project is being considered, project goals, what was heard and revised after Phase 1 of engagement, how design decisions are informed, and how decisions are made, and more.

These design documents on the project page are not the final design.

Open houses will take place starting later this month at the Elks Hall located at 305 Third St. NW.

City staff and project team members will be on-site, available to answer questions and discuss elements that are still being refined.

Three public open houses are scheduled.

The first is on Wednesday, May 27, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and on Tuesday, June 2, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

An additional open house will be available exclusively for Riverside residents to allow for more in-depth discussion with those most directly affected by the project and its proposed upgrades.

It will take place on Wednesday, May 27, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., held in collaboration with the Riverside Neighbourhood Association’s annual barbecue.

A survey is available for residents to formally record their feedback on the proposed 50 per cent design and other project elements.

It is available from May 13 to June 15, 2026.

The survey results will be summarized and shared publicly after the survey closes, with questions optional and anonymous.
