The Esplanade Arts & Heritage Centre is showcasing three solo exhibitions for the public to view this spring and summer, featuring works by Canadian artists Caprice Hogg, Heather Shillinglaw and Adrianne Williams.

A public reception celebrating the artists is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 9.

Xanthe Isbister, curator of the Esplanade’s galleries and collections, said the exhibitions explore themes including landscape, memory, lineage and land-based knowledge, while encouraging visitors to reflect on how personal and collective histories shape identity and perspectives on the world.

Hogg’s exhibition, Time After Time: Landscape Oil Paintings, features works inspired by southern Alberta and Western Canada, drawing on memory, light and personal experiences connected to the land.

The exhibition runs until Oct. 10.

Williams’ exhibition Because of Her presents large-scale paintings that reflect the influence and experiences of women through themes of resilience, care and collective lineage, and continues until Sept. 5.

In dlúne æîk’ãzñ – Mouse Spirit Power, Shillinglaw explores Denesuline knowledge systems through textile works, relief installations, and reclaimed materials created in collaboration with her mother and Elder, Shirley Norris Shillinglaw of Cold Lake First Nation.

The exhibition is also on display until Sept. 5.

Isbister said it’s a privilege to work with artists with practices rooted in relationships to the land and community, adding she hopes residents attend the reception on Saturday.
