Medicine Hat Police Service charge youth in weapons incident

The Medicine Hat Police Service has charged a 17-year-old following a weapons-related incident in the Southeast Hill area of Medicine Hat on April 20.

Police received reports that a male was allegedly threatening others in the area with a machete.

Following an investigation, one youth was arrested without incident and faces charges including carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and assault with a weapon.

The youth has been released from custody on conditions and is scheduled to appear in youth court on May 25.

Due to provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the identity of the accused cannot be released, and no further information will be provided.

Medicine Hat police said the investigation is ongoing and are asking for the public’s help to identify a person of interest.
