“I don’t want to speculate, but it was along the train tracks, so there was several spots burning, and it did get into some brush between the Sammis Drive and the train tracks,” he said.

Crews were able to bring the fire under control after several hours, despite challenges with accessing the area.

“It took a few hours, there was a bit of a fight getting through the terrain [with] some fences and stuff there, but we managed to mop it up,” he said.

The road closures were put in place to support firefighting operations, as the nearest hydrant for filling the brush trucks was located on the opposite side of the road.

“In order to set up a hose line that we could quickly fill our brush trucks, we just closed that road, and then our brush trucks were able to come through, cycle, fill up, and then go back to the fire attack,” he said.

“We had all three brushes from the stations committed to the call for most of it, and then towards the end, we were just cleaning up hot spots.”

Crews remained on scene into the evening to fully extinguish the fire.

“Around 5:30, we called a loss stop and went back home,” he said.
