South Alberta Hockey Academy players sign junior deals, and several receive awards
Evan Vossen has been named the Coach of the Year for the Canadian Sport School Hockey League‘s Female U18 Prep. The South Alberta Hockey Academy head coach led his team to a 19-11-1 regular season record.
A pair of SAHA goalies took home the CSSHL Top Goaltender award for their respective divisions. Chase Nielson won for U17 Prep, and Cash Christie took home the U18 Prep award. Both also earned First Team All-Star honours at their position.
Nielson had a 12-5-1 record in 18 regular-season games with the U17 Prep team. The 16-year-old from Fort McLeod had a 3.15 goals against average and a .913 save percentage. He also appeared in two games with the U18 Prep team during the regular season.
Christie had a 10-1 record in 12 regular-season games. He had a 2.31 goals against average and a .927 save percentage. The 16-year-old from North Vancouver also went 2-0 during the playoffs. He appeared in one regular-season game with the Western Hockey League’s Medicine Hat Tigers, earning a 4-3 overtime win over Lethbridge Hurricanes in a 20-save performance on Feb. 21.
