As the first weekend of May is here, seasonal events and entertainment are happening all over in Medicine Hat to keep you busy.

Friday is sunny with a high of 25 C as clouds start to roll in into the night, with north winds gusting up to 40 this evening, and a low of 8 C at night.

Saturday brings a mix of sun and cloud, with a high of 21 C. At night skies will be clear, with a low of plus 5 C.

On Sunday, sunny skies are expected with a high of 23 C, as cloudy periods will develop overnight and a low of 8 C.

📽 Movies at the Monarch

FRIDAY, SATURDAY and SUNDAY

The Monarch Theatre is screening Clay, Creativity & the Comeback on Friday and Saturday, along with The Goonies on Sunday.

Clay, Creativity & the Comeback is a feature-length documentary by Luke Fandrich telling the story of volunteers who helped revive Medicine Hat’s historic clay industry, leading to what is now Medalta Potteries, a National Historic Site.

The film includes original interviews and archival material, offering a new look at a transformation many locals have never seen.

For Sunday, The Goonies will take the big screen, telling the story of a group of young misfits on an adventure to find a legendary pirate’s long-lost treasure.

Doors open at 6 p.m. with a 7 p.m. showtime for both viewings of Clay, Creativity & the Comeback, as The Goonies will have a 2 p.m. showtime with the doors opening at 1 p.m.

🐯 Medicine Hat Tigers

FRIDAY and SUNDAY

The Medicine Hat Tigers are on the road to take on the Prince Albert Raiders for game 5 of the WHL Eastern Conference Finals.

Puck drop for game 5 takes place at 7 p.m. on Friday.

The series will shift back to Medicine Hat for game 6 on Sunday, with a 6 p.m. puck drop at Co-op Place.

Will Bryant will have the radio broadcast on Wild 94.5 both nights, starting with the pre-game show at 6:45 on Friday, and at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday as he is joined by Lance Doll on colour.

⚱️ Spring Cloth, Colour, & Clay Sale

FRIDAY and SATURDAY

A spring artisan sale is taking place this weekend at The Medicine Hat College Cultural Centre.

The annual event, hosted by the Medicine Hat Potters’ Association along with local fibre arts and art clubs, takes place from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Organizers say all items are handcrafted by local artisans, with the sale timed for Mother’s Day gift shopping, while daily door prizes will also be available.

The event is open to the public, with cash preferred for purchases.

🦸‍♀️ Comic Con ft. Artist Alley at Medicine Hat Public Library

SATURDAY

The Medicine Hat Public Library is preparing to host the third edition of its Comic Con on Saturday, featuring an Artist Alley showcasing local artists and creators selling handmade items inspired by comics and pop culture.

New this year are a series of drop-in cosplay and crafting workshops in the afternoon, alongside returning highlights like the costume contest, free comic books and interactive activities throughout the library.

Organizers say the free event will also include entertainment, games and family-friendly programming, with food available on site and activities running throughout the day.

The event takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

🥏️ PALMS of Fury Disc Golf Party

The Medicine Hat Disc Golf Club is kicking off its outdoor season with a community-focused tournament at Central Park.

The PALMS of Fury disc golf event will feature a low-cost, fun doubles format designed to welcome new players, while also celebrating the life and community contributions of a club member.

Participants will play two nine-hole rounds in a relaxed setting, with opportunities to socialize, swap equipment and enjoy food and prizes.

The event runs on Saturday, with sign-in beginning at 1 p.m., followed by the first round.

A snack break and disc swap is scheduled for 2:30 p.m., with the second round at 3:30 p.m. and prizes and refreshments wrapping up the afternoon around 4:30 p.m.

🏅 100 Days to go Party for the Special Olympics

SATURDAY

Medicine Hat is kicking off the 100-day countdown to the 2026 Special Olympics Canada Summer Games with a community celebration on Saturday at the Medicine Hat Stampede Grounds.

Festivities begin at 2 p.m. and will include live entertainment, athlete ambassadors, food and mini-games, with an on-stage program wrapping up around 3 p.m., as activities will continue until 5 p.m.

Organizers say the event is aimed at building excitement ahead of the Games in August, which will bring more than 1,700 participants from across Canada to compete in 10 sports.

🏺 Medalta’s 40-year celebration

SATURDAY

Medalta in Medicine Hat is celebrating 40 years of clay, culture and community this weekend with a public event in the Historic Clay District.

Fired Up takes place Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The free, family-friendly event will feature hands-on clay activities for kids, live demonstrations, drop-in museum tours and a large outdoor community clay project.

Food and drinks will be available on site, and no registration is required, as the event is open to all ages, with visitors welcome to drop in throughout the day.

👨‍🍳 Food truck and Market Frenzy

SUNDAY

A gathering of local food trucks is returning to Kin Coulee Park from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, bringing together a variety of local trucks and vendors for a midday community outing.

Organizers said attendees can expect live music, family-friendly activities, face painting and market vendors alongside a wide selection of food options.

The event is open to the public, with visitors invited to drop in throughout the afternoon.

🎉 Tigers Tailgate Patio Party

SUNDAY

A pre-game tailgate party is set to take place on Sunday at Co-op Place ahead of Game 6 between the Medicine Hat Tigers and Prince Albert Raiders.

The Tigers Tailgate Patio Party runs from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., featuring an outdoor BBQ with burgers and footlong hot dogs, along with salads and drinks available for purchase.

Organizers say fans can gather outside to enjoy food, music and sunshine before heading inside to cheer on the Tigers, with combo meals offered at set prices during the event.

Access inside the venue beyond the Molson Lounge will be limited until doors open at 5 p.m., though washrooms will be available.

The event is open to the public, with attendees encouraged to arrive early and get set for the game-day atmosphere.
