A weather record fell in the Town of Bow Island for the second time in five days on Saturday.

The spring storm that brought rain, snow, strong winds, and blowing snow to Alberta wound down over the weekend.

Strong winds began last Wednesday afternoon in southeastern Alberta and lasted until Friday evening.

Environment Canada says the strongest reported wind gusts were at Sunnynook, north of Brooks, with peak winds of 96 km/h.

On Friday, falling snow and strong winds resulted in reduced visibility, blowing snow, and poor travel conditions, with travel not recommended for areas of southeastern Alberta.

In addition to the heavy snowfall, Environment Canada says an unseasonably cold air mass arrived on the heels of the snowfall.

The cold front helped set a weather record for Bow Island on Saturday, April 25.

The town reached a low of -6.5 C, to beat the 2008 record low of -5.5 C.

Just five days earlier, Bow Island set a record high with a temperature of 26 C on Monday, April 20.
