The final weekend of April has arrived, and several things are happening in Medicine Hat to keep you busy.

Friday has local blowing snow continuing into the night, with 2 to 4 cm expected. Strong northwest winds gusting up to 70 km/h with a high of -2 C and a low of -5 C, and a wind chill near -13 C.

Saturday is expected to be mainly cloudy with a high of zero degrees, and a wind chill of -11 C in the morning, with a nighttime low of -6 C.

On Sunday, cloudy skies throughout the day and into the night, with a high of zero degrees during the day and a low of -5 C at night.

📽 Movies at the Monarch

FRIDAY, SATURDAY and SUNDAY

The Monarch Theatre is hosting a trio of film screenings each day this weekend.

The lineup begins with the free viewing of Pay It Forward on Friday, presented by the City of Medicine Hat as part of National Volunteer Week, with the free screening recognizing local volunteers, as the doors open at 6 p.m. and the film starts at 7 p.m.

On Saturday, My Father’s Shadow will be screening, following two brothers navigating Lagos alongside their estranged father during the 1993 Nigerian election crisis. Doors open at 6 p.m., with the film starting at 7 p.m.

The weekend wraps up on Sunday with The Lorax, a family-friendly animated film about environmental stewardship. Doors open at 1 p.m., with a 2 p.m. showtime.

Admission is cash only at the door for both films on Saturday and Sunday.

🐯 Medicine Hat Tigers

FRIDAY and SATURDAY

The Medicine Hat Tigers are on the road in Prince Albert this weekend to take on the Raiders for games 1 and 2 in the WHL Eastern Conference final.

The Raiders lead all eastern teams in the league with 110 points in the regular season, just two points ahead of the Tigers, securing home ice advantage in the series.

Game 1 takes place on Friday and Game 2 on Saturday, both with a 7 p.m. puck drop.

Will Bryant will have the radio broadcast on Wild 94.5, starting with the pre-game show at 6:45 each night.

🌲 Interpretive Centre

FRIDAY and SUNDAY

The Medicine Hat Interpretive Program is hosting a pair of activities this weekend for participants to enjoy.

In collaboration with the City of Medicine Hat’s Parks and Recreation Department, the interpretive program is inviting the public to learn about urban trees from 3 to 4 p.m. on Friday at Kin Coulee Park.

The activity will teach participants how to plant and care for trees, while having the chance to win a tree gator bag or soaker hose generously donated by the parks and recreation department.

A $5 registration donation is required to attend the program.

On Sunday, the interpretive program is hosting a new free activity, On the Rocks, to explore the coulees, landforms and the natural environment in Medicine Hat, as well as discussing some of the fossils that have been found in the city.

Interpreters encourage participants to bring proper footwear to prepare for the trail’s rough terrain.

The meeting location will be at the Gas City Campground parking lot at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Community Day at Big Marble Go Centre

SATURDAY

The Big Marble Go Centre will host a free Community Day on Saturday, offering an afternoon of family-friendly activities from noon to 4 p.m.

Activities include free swimming sessions, Nerf Wars, Tot Time, bouncy castles and yard games, with organizers encouraging residents to drop in and take part.

The event is supported by CF Industries as part of its 50th anniversary celebrations.

🎯 Prairie Classic Precision Rifle Regionals

SATURDAY

The Southern Alberta Precision Rifle League is hosting its Prairie Classic PRS Regional weekend along the hills of the South Saskatchewan River.

The two-day event, starting at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, features a pair of centre-fire precision rifle matches, including the Gunslinger Showdown and High Noon on the Badlands, with competitors navigating a course that emphasizes movement, target acquisition and time management.

The scenic venue will include a mix of natural terrain, handmade props and challenging wind conditions.

Open to participants of all skill levels, the event contributes to the Precision Rifle Series regional points race, with participants earning credit toward qualification for the season-ending finale.

🥏️ PALMS of Fury Disc Golf Party

SATURDAY

The Medicine Hat Disc Golf Club is kicking off its outdoor season with a community-focused tournament at Central Park.

The PALMS of Fury disc golf event will feature a low-cost, fun doubles format designed to welcome new players, while also celebrating the life and community contributions of a club member.

Participants will play two nine-hole rounds in a relaxed setting, with opportunities to socialize, swap equipment and enjoy food and prizes.

The event runs on Saturday, with sign-in beginning at 1 p.m., followed by the first round.

A snack break and disc swap is scheduled for 2:30 p.m., with the second round at 3:30 p.m. and prizes and refreshments wrapping up the afternoon around 4:30 p.m.

Registration is also available online.

🏃 2026 Rattler Run

SATURDAY

The annual Medicine Hat College Rattlers Run returns on Saturday for its 47th year, with more than 500 participants expected to take part.

The event features three race options with a three-kilometre fun run, five-kilometre race and a 10-kilometre run beginning at 10:30 a.m. on the Medicine Hat College campus and surrounding trails.

Race director Bill Corcoran said this year’s field may look different due to scheduling conflicts with high school competitions, but adds that several Rattlers athletes and alumni are expected to compete.

Awards ceremonies will take place in the Eresman Theatre at the college about 20 to 30 minutes after the final finisher of each race.

🧚 Medicine Hat Lodge Fairytale Ball

SATURDAY

The Medicine Hat Lodge is inviting families to a Frosty Fairytale-themed event on Saturday.

The Fairytale Ball runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will feature a lunch buffet, live entertainment, games and crafts, along with appearances by costumed princesses.

The event will also include a themed salon experience hosted by One Beauty Academy, with tickets priced at $55 that are available online on Eventbrite.

🥍️ Badlands Sun Devils Lacrosse

SATURDAY

Junior B Lacrosse is set to return to Medicine Hat for the first time in seven years, as the Badlands Sun Devils prepare for their home opener this weekend.

The team will take to the floor at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday at KinPlex 1 against the Mountain View Stingers based out of Didsbury, marking a milestone moment made possible by local organizers and volunteers.

Fans are encouraged to come out and support the Sun Devils as they begin their season.

🌱 Garden Workshop at Root Cellar

SUNDAY

Prairie Pride Guild of Medicine Hat and District and the Community Food Connections Association are hosting a free gardening workshop on Sunday at the Root Cellar Food and Wellness Hub.

The session, led by local educator and horticulturist Genevieve, will focus on soil health, edible plants and building sustainable ecosystems.

Donations are encouraged in support of Community Food Connections.

The workshop begins at 7 p.m.

🌄 Walking History on the Saratoga Trail

SUNDAY

Tourism Medicine Hat is hosting a guided historical tour of Saratoga Park starting at 1 p.m. on Sunday, led by former residents sharing firsthand stories of the Métis community.

The experience features Pat Aaker and her daughter April, who will recount life in the neighbourhood before its decline in the early 2010s, highlighting its close-knit community and history.

Participants will travel to the site aboard the Sunshine Trolley, departing from the Medicine Hat Visitor Information Centre.

Organizers note the terrain at Saratoga Park is uneven and requires a confident level of mobility, with the tour also dependent on weather conditions.
