Medicine Hat College Rattlers Run set for 47th year on Saturday

Apr 22, 2026 | 8:49 AM

The Medicine Hat College Rattlers Run returns for the 47th time this Saturday with over 500 participants expected.

Race director Bill Corcoran said he believes it is the longest continuous annual 10-kilometre run in Alberta.

There are three distance options for registrants: a three-kilometre fun run, a five-kilometre run, and a more challenging 10 km run.

The 10 km race starts at 10:30 a.m., with the 5 km race at 10:40 a.m., and the 3 km fun run underway at 10:50 a.m.

The three-kilometre race is a flat loop around the college grounds. A run through Kin Coulee is added for the five-kilometre race. The 10-kilometre course also adds the Ajax trail.

Corcoran expects the group participating to be a little different this year.

“I know the high schools, because of the teacher strike, have their cross-country championships this year, so we’re going to miss a few good runners out of that,” Corcoran said.

“I don’t think any of last year’s champions have registered, but we got a lot of kids from our team at the Rattlers Cross-Country Running Team running this year,” he added.

“I know Keegan Kolody and Rena Woodruff. There should be 40 people in the 5K. And then the 10K, we’ve got Becky Ross, who’s an alumnus of ours. She looks pretty strong for the 10K. And then Ellie Barlow, Pheonix Asprey, and a couple of the younger runners are doing their first 10K. So we’ll see. Hopefully, there’s a Rattlers flavour on the podium this year.”

Prize money goes to the top three overall for both men and women in the five-kilometre and 10-kilometre races.

Sign-up is available until the end of the day on Thursday on the college website.
