Medicine Hat transit service included in a $730K federal funding announcement

The federal government is investing more than $730,000 to support rural transit projects across Alberta, including planning work in Medicine Hat.

The funding, delivered through the Rural Transit Solutions Fund, will support transit purchases and planning initiatives in six rural communities.

In Medicine Hat, the investment will fund the development of an implementation plan aimed at improving adaptive transit services, with a focus on increasing efficiency and accessibility for users.

Elsewhere, a new mini-bus will be purchased for the Lac Ste. Anne Métis Community Association to provide on-demand transportation for seniors and Elders, particularly those living in a new housing development and surrounding areas.

In Kehewin Cree Nation, funding will support the purchase of two electric vehicles and charging stations to improve on-reserve transit and access to health services in nearby municipalities.

The Edson Seniors’ Transportation Society will receive funding for an accessible van to help seniors and people with disabilities get to essential services.

Additional planning projects include transit needs and feasibility studies for Tribal Chief Ventures Inc. and the Town of Vegreville, aimed at assessing gaps and improving service delivery in those communities.

Federal officials say the funding is intended to improve access to essential services and daily activities for residents in rural, remote and Indigenous communities, while helping build more connected transportation networks across the province.
