Pair of Medicine Hat Cubs players win HJHL regular season awards

The Medicine Hat Cubs have a pair of players winning awards for the 2025-26 Heritage Junior Hockey League regular season.

Most Valuable Player went to captain Kyle Woolridge, and the Top Goaltender winner is Marlo DeRosa.

Woolridge also shared the Top Goal Scorer award with Mason Hastings of the Red Deer Vipers. Both forwards scored 32 goals during the season.

This is the second straight season the 21-year-old forward Woolridge has led the league in goals, with 49 the year prior.

The 19-year-old DeRosa, in his first season with the Cubs, had a 14-3-1 record with a 2.35 goals against average and .917 save percentage. He led the league with four shutouts in 19 games. Among qualified goalies, he led the league in goals against average and was fifth in save percentage.

The Most Sportsmanlike Player award was won by 21-year-old forward Wout Rehorst of the High River Flyers, who had 26 points in 26 games with no penalty minutes.

The Cubs will start the best-of-five HJHL’s South Finals against the Cannex Cochrane Generals on Friday night at the Kinplex.
