Brooks Bandits look to continue four-game winning streak this weekend

Feb 20, 2026 | 9:28 AM

The Brooks Bandits enter the weekend on a four-game winning streak and have points in nine straight games.

They are on the road on Friday playing the Saints in Spruce Grove, and host the Cranbrook Bucks on Saturday night.

The Bandits are one of the top offensive teams in the British Columbia Hockey League this season, sitting tied for first in goals with the Cowichan Valley Capitals at 191.

A winning streak will end on Friday for one of the two teams, as the Saints have won six straight games.

The race for top spot in the Interior East Division is tight; the Bandits trail the Blackfalds Bulldogs by a single point for first with a game in hand.

Not far behind the Bandits are the Saints, just seven points back, and the Sherwood Park Crusaders are eight points back.

Bandits head coach Dakota Mason says that the Saints are disciplined and hard-working.

“They don’t beat themselves,” said Mason in a statement from the Bandits.

“This game will come down to maturity, and we showed flashes of that this past weekend,” he added.

“Three of our next four games are against Spruce Grove, so it’s going to be a real challenge.”

A pair of games in Spruce Grove the weekend following will close out the season series between the two teams.

The Bandits hold a three-games-to-one edge in the four games played between the clubs this year.

Saturday’s opponent, the Cranbrook Bucks, is in a battle for a playoff spot in the Interior West Division, but has dropped five of their last seven games.

Mason says that Cranbrook is still a good team.

“They didn’t start the season the way they wanted, but with the changes they’ve made, they’re a competitive group now,” Mason said.

“There’s so much parity in this league. Anyone can beat anyone on any given night. We’re focused on what we need to do.”

Bandits forward Harry Ahlberg was named the BCHL First Star of the Week after recording eight points in his last two games, including three goals.

He has posted multi-point efforts in four of his last five contests and has recorded six multi-goal games since December 10.

Mason says that Ahlberg is a terrific player.

“He’s very committed to the details of the game and what makes the team successful,” Mason said.

“He plays on our first line and our first power play. He’s a major key for us, and we’re extremely happy to have him in our lineup.”

The Bandits had 14 goals in two games last weekend, and with the BCHL trade deadline now past, will look to continue to find the back of the net.

“When you know exactly who you have going forward into the playoffs, it brings a sense of relief to the group,” Mason said.

“But the job isn’t done. Guys are still competing for ice time, roles, and making sure they’re in the lineup every night.”

Recent roster moves for the Bandits included the addition of a pair of defencemen, Tanner Winegard and Dane Sorensen, a forward, Rylan Hue, and a depth goaltender in Connor Johnson.

Forward Jeremiah Mundy was traded to the Powell River Kings.

Puck drop for both games is 7 p.m.
