A Grade 11 student at Medicine Hat High School was recognized on Tuesday for his efforts during a medical emergency at his school.

Raphael Vignon was presented with a Medicine Hat Police Service Challenge Coin and an MHPS shoulder flash by School Resource Officer Cst. Taylor Olenic.

A social media post from the Medicine Hat Police Service said that the MHPS School Resource Officer and Medicine Hat High School staff were proud to recognize Vignon for his swift and compassionate response.

The post added that Vignon’s quick thinking and care for a fellow student in distress made a meaningful difference.

Vice Principal Suzanne Fisher said it is a privilege to be surrounded by students and staff who constantly impress us with their heart and resilience.

“When faced with a difficult situation, Raphael rose to the challenge, acting immediately and effectively to get help,” Fisher said.

“It’s in these moments that we see the best versions of our school community.”

The MHPS post finished by stating, “We are incredibly proud of Raphael for demonstrating maturity, leadership, and kindness in a moment that mattered. Way to go, Raphael!”
