The Medicine Hat Public School Division presented its annual education results report at a meeting on Dec. 9, 2025, outlining student data, provincial measures and progress toward four system goals.

The goals include optimal learning, thinking and acting inclusively, wellness, and truth and reconciliation.

Student enrolment declined slightly from last year, though the number of First Nations, Métis and Inuit students increased, according to a division survey.

Grade 9 Provincial Achievement Test results are an area of focus, but excellence levels improved slightly from last year, trustees said.

Administrators said the division continues to prioritize diverse program offerings and individualized supports.

The report highlighted strategies related to teacher clarity, effective use of learning data and creating safe classroom environments.

Trustees also approved updates to three governance policies to better align with government protocols.

The policies include 200: Role of the Board of Trustees; 202.1: Trustee Code of Conduct and its sanctions appendix; and 202.3: Recognition of Trustees Upon Completion of Service.

The board discussed a change to clause 8 of Policy 202.1, which requires trustees to support board decisions regardless of personal views.

Trustees suggested during a discussion to expand the wording to clearly outline expectations around public communication.

The motion to amend the policy passed unanimously.
