The Crescent Heights High School varsity girls volleyball team is headed to the 3A provincial championship after winning the South Zone final in a five-set win over the McCoy Colts on Saturday.

The Crescent Heights Vikings will travel to Grande Prairie on Nov. 29 as Alberta’s top-ranked 3A team.

The Vikings have gone undefeated through seven tournaments this year, with first-place finishes in Brooks, Moose Jaw and Medicine Hat, including the Dig Pink, Hat High and Kodiaks events.

The team has also claimed the City and South Zone titles for the second straight year.

Team members are Abree Gregory, Danielle Hollingworth, Deija Gehring, Haidyn Soper, Jasmine Holland, Kloe Winter, Madison Pavlovic Yanay, and co-captains Kinleigh Haysom and Savannah Armstrong.

Seven of the nine athletes are in Grade 12, and many have played together since Grade seven.

The coaches, Marshall Armstrong and Shonna Barth, have worked with this team for six seasons, guiding most of the players from their junior years through to their final senior campaign.

Co-captains Armstrong and Haysom said the long-established bond among players has been central to their success.

The Vikings have built their reputation through loyalty and competitive spirit with a special dash of fun on the court that surprises their opponents.

Teachers and students filled the stands throughout the season, often with signs, wearing school colours, and loud support from across the athletics program.

Support from the Crescent Heights community has been steady and heartfelt.
