Here is what’s on this weekend in Medicine Hat: November 21-23

With only two weekends left in November, it’s closing in on a month to Christmas this weekend, and with that, shopping is becoming top of mind for many, as people get into the Christmas spirit.

The temperature this weekend is expected to drop below 0 C, but will also be into double-digit highs.

Environment Canada is predicting wind speeds up to 60 km/h in the afternoon on Friday with a mix of sun and cloud.

Winds are expected to be in the 20 to 40 km/h range in the evening, with a low of -2 C.

Saturday is mainly sunny with wind speeds of up to 40 km/hr in the afternoon, a daytime high of 10, and an evening low of 3 C, but the wind chill is -6 C in the morning.

Sunday is projected to be sunny with a high of 10 C, with snow in the evening and a low of -3 C.

🏬 MIDNIGHT MADNESS

FRIDAY

The Southeast Alberta Chamber of Commerce is hosting Midnight Madness to support local businesses in downtown Medicine Hat and kick off the holiday season one week before Black Friday.

Midnight Madness takes place on Friday from 4 p.m. to midnight.

Medicine Hat Mayor Linnsie Clark will take part in a tree lighting ceremony at Batus Park at 6 p.m.

Some highlights include:

  • The Monarch Theatre will show Home Alone with a $5 cash entry fee. Doors open at 6 p.m., the movie begins at 7 p.m., and the concession will be two items for $5.
  • Hay rides with stops at the Esplanade from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.
  • A petting zoo from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  • A colouring contest from 4 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Chamber of Commerce office.

More than 80 businesses will be open downtown for a night of shopping, live entertainment, giveaways and food and drinks.

🐍 Medicine Hat College Rattlers

FRIDAY AND SATURDAY

The Medicine Hat College Rattlers Volleyball teams are in action Friday at the College’s Snake Pit against Keyano College.

The women’s game is underway at 6 p.m., with the men starting at 8 p.m.

Saturday, the men’s volleyball team hosts the Lakeland College Rustlers at 6 p.m.

Also on Saturday, the women’s hockey team hosts the SAIT Trojans at the Moose Rec Centre at 7:30 p.m.

📽 TIC TAC Presents: Holiday Movies (Teen) at MHPL

FRIDAY

A teen movie night is being hosted at the Medicine Hat Public Library on Friday in the theatre room.

Teens will vote between Polar Express, Rise of the Guardians, Home Alone, and The Santa Clause upon arrival.

Doors open from 6:45 p.m. to 7:15 p.m., then are locked for safety, ending at 9 p.m.

🥌 U18 Cash Spiel at the Medicine Hat Curling Centre

FRIDAY, SATURDAY, AND SUNDAY

A U18 Cash Spiel takes place at the Medicine Hat Curling Centre this weekend.

The public is invited to come watch with free admission.

The first draw starts Friday at 7 p.m.

Draw two and three are Saturday at 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

On Sunday, draw four will be the semi-finals at 9 a.m., with draw five, the finals at 1 p.m.

There will be a silent auction during the event with a progressive 50/50.

🎙Comedy Night with Ben Bauce

FRIDAY

Element’s Restaurant and Bar hosts Comedy Night in the Medicine Hat Lodge on Friday at 8 p.m.

Calgary-based comedian Ben Bauce will perform.

There is a $10 cover charge to attend.

🤼‍♂️CWE: Rumble to Remember Tour

SATURDAY

The Canadian Wrestling’s Elite Promotion is set to take over Higdon Hall on Saturday with several matches during the night.

Multiple local fighters are on the card, including Wild 94.5’s morning show host Jesse Christianson.

The doors open at 6:30 p.m., a VIP meet and greet takes place at 6 p.m., with the bell time at 7 p.m.

Tickets are reduced by $5 per ticket when purchasing online before the event, but are also available at the door.

🐅 Medicine Hat Tigers Cancer Awareness Game

SATURDAY

The Medicine Hat Tigers host the annual Cancer Awareness Game at Co-op Place on Saturday Night.

They take on the Calgary Hitmen starting at 7 p.m.

Purple Tigers Fight Cancer hoodies are being sold during the game and before.

In years past the team has also worn special jerseys to be auctioned off.

Will Bryant and Lance Doll will have the call on Wild 94.5, starting with the pre-game at 6:30 p.m.

The South East Tigers U17 AAA hockey team will also be hosting a Cancer Awareness Game at the Kinplex Arena on Saturday at 6:30 p.m., with the U15 AAA team playing at 3:35 p.m.

Money raised at the minor hockey event will stay local at the Margery E Yuill Cancer Centre.

They will have jersey auctions, a silent auction and caramel popcorn made by the players is being sold.

💦 Discover Our Watershed – Youth Program

SUNDAY

The Medicine Hat Interpretive Program for Watershed Explorers is a new series for youth between the ages of six and 12 years old.

Starting Nov. 23 at 2 p.m., the series of six free programs will be hosted on the first and fourth Sunday of the month, each covering a different aspect of the local watershed from the creatures that call it home, to water quality, native plants and more.

Participants will earn a different badge for attending each program and will win a prize for collecting all 6.

These programs are made possible in part thanks to the Land Stewardship Centre of Canada.

This guided walk through Police Point Park will take a closer look at the local watershed, what defines it, and the diversity of life it supports.

Registration is required for this free program as space is limited.

Youths must be accompanied by an adult.

Participants are encouraged to dress for the weather.

🎄Christmas Hoedown at the Monarch

SUNDAY

Canadian fiddle champion Scott Woods and his band will perform during a high-energy two-hour show at the Monarch Theatre on Sunday at 2 p.m.

He will be joined by Kendra Norris, Steven Piticco, Leo Stock, and Gary and Nadine Boles.

📽 Wicked Sing-Along at MHPL

SUNDAY

A showing of the movie Wicked takes place at the Medicine Hat Public Library on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Step into the world of Oz and sing along with your favourite witches during the movie.

Dressing up is encouraged, bring your singing voice and join the fun!

🏒 Medicine Hat Cubs

SUNDAY

The Medicine Hat Cubs host the Red Deer Vipers on Sunday at the Kinplex Arena.

Game time is 3 p.m.
