Caring Coats Campaign in Medicine Hat kicks off as winter season comes around

Nov 16, 2025 | 5:00 AM

The Salvation Army and Arrkann Trailer & RV in Medicine Hat are hosting The MY96 Caring Coats Campaign from Nov. 17, 2025, to March 15, 2026.

The campaign collects donations from the public of gently used winter coats and any outdoor winter clothing, such as scarves, mitts and winter boots.

Donations collected are given free of charge by the Salvation Army Resource Centre to those in need of warm outdoor clothing for the winter.

Sandi Hart, the coordinator at the Salvation Army Resource Centre, said about 150 jackets were given to the vulnerable sector last year.

“We focus a lot on our seniors. We’re seeing a lot more seniors coming in for coats,” Hart said.

“There were calls in from a few of the schools in town, and we were giving coats and snowsuits to the schools as well.”

Hart said there have been so many donations from people in the city in previous years.

“The generosity of Medicine Hat has always amazed us,” Hart said.

“Medicine Hat just seems to stand up and really look after their own, and I’m very proud to be part of that.”

Donations can be made at the Salvation Army Resource Centre or the Arrkann Trailer & RV building.

The Salvation Army is located at 457, 3rd St. S.E., and is open Monday through Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Arrkann Trailer & RV is located at 1153 Trans Canada Way S.E., and is open from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
