Election forum for Cypress County hosted in Dunmore on Thursday

An election forum for Cypress County is scheduled to take place in Dunmore on Thursday, Oct. 2.

The Southeast Alberta Chamber of Commerce will host candidates at Eagle Butte High School, with the doors opening at 5:30 p.m. for a meet and greet, and a two-hour forum to follow at 6:30 p.m.

Eleven councillor candidates will participate from eight of the county’s nine wards.

Ward 1 won’t be represented at the forum, as incumbent Councillor Michelle McKenzie, representing the Hilda and Schuler area, is already acclaimed. Also not attending are candidates Michael Teliske from Ward 2 and Les Woodrow from Ward 8.

Scheduled to be at the forum are incumbent Councillor Blaine Brost with Ward 2, acclaimed incumbent Councillor Lloyd Want with Ward 3, incumbent Councillor Robin Kurpjuweit and his opponent Bill Thompson with Ward 4, Della Burkitt and current Reeve Dan Hamilton with Ward 5, acclaimed incumbent Councillor Dustin Vossler for Ward 6, Ana McFadyen and Garry Procter facing off in Ward 7, incumbent Councillor Shane Hok in Ward 8, and acclaimed incumbent Councillor Keith Ritz for Ward 9.

The Chamber will have a live recording of the forum on its YouTube channel following the event.

Voting will be required in five wards that include the Irvine and Walsh area, the area south and north east of Dunmore, Veinerville and Dunmore areas, Desert Blume and the areas north of Seven Persons, and the area near Redcliff.

Advanced voting from Cypress County is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 4, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the county office in Dunmore.

Election Day is Monday, Oct. 20; voting takes place from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Voting locations will be listed on the Cypress County website.
