City of Medicine Hat looks for feedback on proposed recreational facilities

Sep 19, 2025 | 1:31 PM

The City of Medicine Hat is looking for feedback on the potential development of a Southside Outdoor Aquatics Centre and Brier Run Sports Field.

They have a 10-minute survey that will be wrapping up Sunday, Sept. 21, 2025.

Medicine Hat City Council endorsed administration to begin this engagement during its meeting on Aug. 18, 2025.

The city is in the site identification phase for a location for the Southside Outdoor Aquatics Centre, which could be paired with a potential new recreation centre on the same site in the future.

The construction of Brier Run sports fields would build on the Brier Run Area Structure Plan, which identifies a new mixed-use growth area around the Big Marble Go Centre.

The cost to build the outdoor pool is estimated in the $25 million to $35 million range, with the sports fields development in the $15 million to $20 million range.

Feedback will help City Council and staff better understand resident perspectives on funding, locations, amenities, and priorities for the potential development of these new recreational facilities.

Additional details about the project are available on the City of Medicine Hat’s Facilities for the Future page.
