Medicine Hat City Council set for a busy agenda Tuesday

Sep 2, 2025 | 12:04 PM

Medicine Hat City Council will have the public portion of its meeting Tuesday night begin at 6:30 p.m. with several items on the agenda.

The Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede funding request for a new grandstand will be discussed.

A decision on a city grant of up to almost $15.9 million to support the project was delayed after further dialogue on the construction was requested by the groups general manager Ron Edwards during the Sept. 2 meeting.

The deal listed during that meeting is contingent province providing 40 per cent of the overall costs, and the stampede group coming up with the remaining 10 per cent.

The City of Medicine Hat Transportation Master Plan that has drawn lots of public interest is listed, but is also being recommended to be postponed to the new year.

The 85-page urban planning document puts forward a case to improve active transportation options through the expansion of sidewalks and traffic-calming methods like bump-outs that narrow intersections.

It has been reached with opposition from several residents.

A rezoning request for 2055 Saamis Drive Southwest, the potential new home for The Mustard Seed‘s 24/7 Shelter services is listed for a first reading.

The location would combine The Mustard Seed’s services in Medicine Hat under one roof, and move it away from residential areas that have faced public discontent.

Discussion on a land use amendment for 1064 1st St. SW in the Harlow area of Medicine Hat, would see a recommendation to shift the property to medium density residential with height restrictions for developments.

Residents in the area have shown opposition to a large multi-story development that had been previously proposed at the location.
