The 40th anniversary of the Royal Tyrrell Museum will include special events and dino-sized pop-up exhibits across the province including at the Medicine Hat Library.

A series of pop-up exhibits will be on display at libraries across Alberta starting this September.

An Alberta government release said the exhibits offer an exciting opportunity for communities to engage with the wonders of palaeontology.

“For 40 years, the Royal Tyrrell Museum has profoundly affected the world of palaeontology, highlighting Alberta’s vital contributions to the world’s understanding of dinosaurs,” said Tanya Fir, minister of arts, culture and status of women.

“Our government is proud to operate and support this world-class space and we invite everyone to join in on the exciting celebrations!”

Lisa Making, executive director, Royal Tyrrell Museum said the anniversary is a reflection on four decades of scientific discovery, public engagement and a shared passion for Alberta’s rich prehistoric heritage.

“This milestone is a tribute to the dedication of our staff, the strength of our partnerships and the millions of visitors who have joined us in exploring the ancient past,” Making said.

“We look forward to building on this legacy for generations to come.”

Pop up exhibits will also be hosted at nine other libraries in addition to the Medicine Hat Public Library.

The list includes:

  • Lethbridge Public Library
  • Calgary Public Library (Central Library)
  • Red Deer Public Library (downtown branch)
  • Edmonton Public Library (Stanley A. Milner Library)
