City Centre Vibrancy Program in Medicine Hat launches Aug. 13

A funding initiative aimed at supporting Medicine Hat’s local businesses and property owners in enhancing the visual appeal of their commercial space, is set to launch on Aug. 13.

The City Centre Vibrancy Program, is offered through a partnership between the City of Medicine Hat and Community Futures Entre-Corp.

It is designed to encourage improvement projects in the city centre by offering financial support through a combination of grant funding and interest-free loans.

Applicants must be a business owner or registered property owner of a commercial space located within was is defined as the city centre boundaries.

The city said eligible improvements include facade upgrades, signage, lighting, accessibility enhancements, and other improvements that contribute to a more welcoming and vibrant city centre.

“The City Centre Vibrancy program is a meaningful way we can help our downtown businesses,” said Selena McLean-Moore, director of economic development with the City of Medicine Hat.

“By supporting projects that enhance storefronts, activate public spaces, and attract foot traffic, we’re investing in a more vibrant, welcoming, and resilient city centre”, she added.

“These grants not only strengthen individual businesses but also contribute to the overall economic and social health of our community.”

There are two options included with the program, with a maximum of up to $30,000 per applicant if they qualify for both, as up to $15,000 is available through either a grant or loan.

One grant is funded by the City of Medicine Hat through Medicine Hat Economic Development, the other an interest-free loan of up to $15,000 is provided by Community Futures Entre-Corp, with the city funding the interest costs.

Online applications open on Aug 13.
