Medicine Hat Tigers sign pair of U.S. born skaters

Jun 19, 2025 | 3:20 PM

The Medicine Hat Tigers have signed 2008-born forward Noah Davidson and 2007-born defenseman Kyle Heger to WHL Scholarship and Development deals.

It is the Tigers’ first signings of the off-season and the third consecutive American-born skater the Tigers have signed, after they inked Owen Hayes (’09) to a WHL Scholarship and Development deal at the end of April.

Davidson, a native of Irvine, CA, spent last season with Shattuck St. Mary’s 18U program, recording 40 goals and 72 points over a 58-game span.

Heger, of Eagan, MN, played alongside Davidson at Shattuck St. Mary’s last season, recording 8 goals and 59 points over 58 games.

Davidson was originally selected 31st overall by the Tigers during the 2023 U.S. Prospects Draft, while Heger was selected 135th overall by Medicine Hat during the 2022 WHL Prospects Draft.

The recent U.S. signings are a sign of the changing landscape of junior hockey.

Now with the ability to play in the CHL without losing NCAA eligibility, expect to see even more American-born players suit up in the WHL over the coming seasons.

The Cats’ lone American skater last season was rookie forward Schaeffer Gordon-Carroll from Salt Lake City, UT.
