May 13, 2025 | 4:20 PM

A driver with a Canada-wide prohibition was observed operating a vehicle by Medicine Hat police on Sunday morning.

At 10 a.m. police saw the vehicle at the intersection of College Drive Southeast at 13th Avenue Southeast and attempted to stop the vehicle, however the driver fled at high speed.

The Medicine Hat Police Service said its officers did not pursue the vehicle due to public safety concerns.

Shortly after, the same vehicle was observed near the suspect’s home.

Additional officers arrived, and the suspect fled on a bicycle north on Dunmore Road.

The K-9 unit and drone teams located the suspect in the 800 block of 9th Street Southeast.

A 26-year-old Medicine Hat man was taken into custody without injury and was charged with failing to comply with release order conditions, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, resisting a peace officer, flight from a peace officer and two charges of operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited.

The accused was remanded into custody pending a court appearance on Tuesday in Medicine Hat provincial court.
