Medicine Hat Police Service seeking public’s help locating missing elderly man

The Medicine Hat Police Service is seeking the public’s urgent assistance in locating a missing elderly male, Mr. Brian Gettis.

Gettis is 77 years old, and MHPS said he was last seen around Chartwell Place on April 26 at around 9:00 a.m.

Police describe Gettis as an elderly male, 5 feet 8 inches in height, and 150 pounds. His hair is grey and receding, and he wears glasses.

MHPS said it is believed he was not wearing his glases when he left home.

The MHPS said Mr. Gettis is believed to have been on foot when he left the residence.

It said the family and the MHPS are concerned for Mr. Gettis’ wellbeing, considering his age and potential medical conditions

Residents in the area of Chartwell, Somerset, Strachan Court SE are urged by police to check their properties, outbuildings, and any surveillance cameras they might have.

MHPS said anyone traveling on roads or highways, especially in the areas of Strachan Road, 13 Avenue SE, and South Boundary Road SE is asked to be vigilant and report any sightings.

MHPS urge the community to help in its efforts.

“Every moment counts, and we are hopeful for Mr. Gettis’ safe return,” MHPS said in a written statement Saturday.

“We kindly request that members of the public share this information on their social media platforms to widen our reach. There is no indication that this is suspicious.”

Southeast Alberta Search and Rescue is assisting in the search.

The MHPS asks to report any sightings at 403-529-8481.
