Traffic stop in Medicine Hat leads to trafficking charges

Apr 11, 2025 | 12:18 PM

A vehicle stop by the Medicine Hat Police Service’s Patrol Section on the Trans-Canada Highway Friday morning led to three individuals being charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of unmarked cigarettes.

Police conducted the traffic stop after observing that the license plate on the vehicle did not match the registrations records.

During the interaction with the driver and passengers, officers observed contraband cigarettes and drug paraphernalia in plain view.

A subsequent search then located fentanyl inside the vehicle as well.

The three occupants of the vehicle were arrested and charged, and are being held for a judicial interim hearing to speak to their release.

This includes a 34-year old woman, 36-year old man, and a 50-year old man all from Winnipeg, Manitoba.
