Canadian Music, Identity Dominate 2025 JUNO’s in Vancouver

The 2025 JUNO Awards broadcast on Sunday was hosted by Burnaby’s Michael Buble. He first opened the evening with a medley of his hits, joined by a vibrant array of guest artists from various regions, genres, and ethnicities.

But then Buble also made a strong statement alluding to the current geo-political situation in Canada: “We are the greatest nation on earth…and we are not for sale,” drawing a huge ovation from the capacity Vancouver crowd.

Major awards handed out Sunday included:

The Beaches – Group of the Year

Country Music Album of the Year – “Complicated” – Josh Ross, who also performed live.

Lifetime Achievement Award – Anne Murray (who wore a crimson Team Canada jersey), presented by Sarah McLachlan (who also received a standing ovation).

Canadian Music Hall of Fame Induction – SUM 41, who staged their final live performance.

International Achievement Award – Boi-1da

Calgary’s Tate McRae shone Alberta’s light brightly at these awards. She won four trophies at the JUNO Gala the previous evening. McRae first won for Single of the Year for her smash hit record “Exes,” Artist of the Year, and also both Pop Album of the Year and Album of the Year for her long player “Think Later.”
