Medicine Hat announces spring street sweeping schedule

Mar 3, 2025 | 9:39 AM

The City of Medicine Hat has set its annual spring street sweeping schedule, weather permitting, for the season.

Starting April 6, the city will begin night sweeping of medians, boulevards and bridges.

April 21 to 25 school zones will be swept, and starting May 5 Zone 1 of residential street sweeping will occur.

Zones 2 to 17 of residential street sweeping and paved lanes do not yet have a determined date.

The annual spring street sweeping program removes sanding materials and debris that have accumulated on roads and along sidewalks and boulevards during the winter months.

Sustained warm temperatures have quickly melted snow and ice, uncovering the sand and gravel used as traction control in the winter season.

The city says that roads are nearly dried enough to begin city-wide street sweeping.

Some spot sweeping will take place this week on hills, main roads around the hospital, and select downtown streets.

The street sweeping program is set to begin with arterial and collector roadways in March.

Paved lanes are a new dedicated category for 2025.

The city will continue to provide updates on street sweeping, and more information is to be provided prior to the start of the residential street sweeping program.
