Extreme cold warning continues for Medicine Hat on Family Day

Feb 17, 2025 | 10:16 AM

Environment Canada issued a warning for extremely cold wind chill values near -45 C Monday morning.

It said wind chill values will moderate somewhat during the daytime hours, being -34 C this afternoon.

The extremely cold wind chills will begin to moderate by mid-week.

Environment Canada said that extreme cold puts everyone at risk.

Risks are greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter.

It said to dress warmly, in layers that you can remove if you get too warm. The outer layer should be wind resistant.

Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.

Environment Canada said that if it’s too cold for you to stay outside, it’s too cold for your pet to stay outside.
