What’s on this weekend in Medicine Hat and area: Feb. 14-17

It’s a long weekend, albeit a cold one.

Temperatures drop to -18 C for Friday, -19 C on Saturday and -21 C on Sunday. There’s a 30 per cent chance of flurries on Saturday.

🐅 Tigers at home

The Medicine Hat Tigers will return for a pair of home games this weekend.

They play the Regina Pats on Saturday and the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Monday.

Friday game start at 7 p.m., with the Family Day Monday game starting at 2 p.m. at Co-op Place.

Tickets are available online and also in-person at the box office.

Tune in live on Wild 94.5 radio 30 minute before each game for the pre-game broadcast.

🐍 Rattlers at home

The Medicine Hat Rattlers will be busy with three different sports in action at home this weekend, and some final home games taking place.

Both basketball teams play Friday night against the SAIT Trojans at the Snake Pit with the women starting at 6 p.m. and the men at 8 p.m. with the final home game for each team.

The women’s hockey teams hosts a pair of games against Red Deer Polytechnic, Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m., both at the Moose Recreation Centre. Also the final home games of the season.

The volleyball teams are home at the Snake Pit for the final time of the year on Saturday with the women starting at 6 p.m. and the men at 8 p.m.

🏑Family Day Fest

Family Day Fest at the Big Mable Go Centre runs from Noon to 4 p.m. on Monday.

Free drop in activities include:

  • Public skating in the Cenovus Arena, Noon-1 p.m., 1:30-2:30 p.m., and 3-4 p.m.
  • Tot time will be set up an indoor playground across two gym quadrants.
  • An inflatable adventure zone will be set up in Fieldhouse One.
  • Floor hockey for older kids and adults will be set up in a gym quadrant.
  • The Big Marble Farms Discovery Centre will be set up with a hands-on learning zone, fun prizes, a photo booth and fresh produce.
  • Yard Games will be set up in another gym quadrant.
  • Quiet room activities will take place in the play room.

📽 Monarch Theatre presents Shrek

The Monarch Theatre is showing the family-friendly cartoon Shrek for $5 at the door.

Doors open at 1 p.m. and the show starts at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

🎮 Teens only: Crafts and Controllers

For those into crafting, gaming or both, this after-hours, teen-only event will offer a dynamic space to socialize, unleash creativity and enjoy a memorable night with friends, the library says.

Snacks will be provided.

Doors are open for entry on Friday from 6:45 – 7:15 p.m., only then locked for safety. The event ends at 9 p.m.

It’s for those age 13-19, according to an event description.

🏒 Brooks Bandits

The Brooks Bandits host the Cranbrook Bucks Friday night at the Centennial Regional Arena.

Game time is 7 p.m.

🏒 Minor Hockey

The South Alberta Hockey Academy has a busy weekend at home with all three of there teams in action.

SAHA’s U18 Male Prep team host the Calgary International Hockey Academy Friday night at 7:45 p.m., and Sunday at 3:15 p.m. at the Big Marble Go Centre.

The SAHA U17 Male Prep team hosts Edge School Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 10:30 p.m. at the Big Marble Go Centre.

SAHA’s U18 Female Prep team host St. Mary’s Academy Saturday at the Moose Recreation Centre at 7:30 a.m.

The South East Athletic Club U15 AAA team hosts the Red Deer Rebels on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. and Sunday at 12:30 p.m. at the Hockey Hounds Recreation Centre.

The Medicine Hat Hockey Hounds U13 AA team hosts the Olds Grizzlys Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Kinplex One.

The Medicine Hat Hockey Hounds U16 AA team hosts the Airdrie Lightning Sunday at 12:30 p.m. at Kinplex One.
