Medicine Hat junior bowler to compete at nationals

Jan 5, 2025 | 7:00 AM

A 13-year-old bowler from Panorama Lanes in Medicine Hat will be heading to nationals in Edmonton in May.

Kaige Deering, won the five pin Junior Boys Provincial Singles Championship in December.

Deering said that only the top junior bowler qualified.

“”I averaged 246, and the other average I think was 208,” Deering said.

“I was Mr. Consistent the whole time.”

Deering said his key to staying consistent is one good ball at a time, and to stay low and slow.

He beat 46 other bowlers to earn his spot at nationals in Edmonton, and had a higher average than the bowlers in the senior division at provincials.

Deering’s best score ever is 364, with a perfect game in five pin being 450.

He has quickly been able to improve his bowling ability over a short period of time.

“My parents took over the bowling alley about a year and a half ago, and then I started bowling from then,” Deering said.

Deering says his favourite part about the sport is meeting all the new people and the experiences along the way.
