MATCHES 50 PER CENT OF FUNDS

Province encourages residents to donate using Crowdfunding Alberta this season

The Government of Alberta is encouraging residents to celebrate this giving season by donating to a non-profit or charity via Crowdfunding Alberta.

The provincial government matches 50 per cent of the funds raised by an eligible campaign for up to $5,000 annually.

Officials say organizations on the website are pre-screened in an effort to ensure donations are going to legitimate and credible non-profits and charities.

“Albertans are generous and it shows during giving season when we step up to give our time and money to the non-profits and charities that improve the lives of our friends and neighbours. Giving Tuesday is the perfect time to visit the Crowdfunding Alberta platform and contribute to causes you are passionate about,” commented Tanya Fir, Minister of Arts, Culture and Status of Women.

Since April 1, the province has matched donations for 29 Crowdfunding Alberta campaigns, granting a total of nearly $104,000 to various causes.

Giving Tuesday falls on Dec. 3, and represents a national initiative to encourage donations during the holiday season.
