Crescent Heights-area trail in Medicine Hat closes due to snow

Nov 27, 2024 | 11:36 AM

A section of trail in the Northeast Crescent Heights area of Medicine Hat will be closed until further notice due to an inability to safely perform snow removal.

The trail commonly referred to as the Goat Path links the area near Jefferies Park to the intersection of Altawana Drive Northeast and Parkview Drive Northeast.

The amount of slope in the area prevents safe, reliable snow removal with existing equipment and methods, the city said in a news release Wednesday.

This narrow section of trail with steep edges has sections with a grade above 25 per cent.

After operating to the best of their ability in previous winters, parks and recreation staff have identified that performing snow removal on this section of trail has become increasingly difficult.

Residents are asked to obey posted signage and barricades.

The City of Medicine Hat will provide updates if a safe method has been identified which would allow the trail to re-open.
