Koe and Hofstra teams big winners at U18 Cashspiel at Medicine Hat Curling Centre

A familiar name to those in the curling world ended up taking home the $1,500 prize at the first ever U18 Cashspiel at the Medicine Hat Curling Centre‘s RME Place.

The women’s team skipped by Okotoks, Alta., based Lila Koe won over Team Yurko, who’s also from the Calgary area.

Lila Koe is the daughter of four-time world championship participant, skip Kevin Koe, who also represented Canada in the 2018 Winter Olympics.

In the men’s event Leduc, Alta., based Team Hofstra won over Alberta based Team Duncan.

Winner of the $1,000 scholarship was Robert Nelson of Sexsmith, Alta., who is the second for Team Duncan.

His 500-word essay on what inspired him to curl won, with over 30 essays submitted to the curling centre.

The event was swept by the Alberta teams, with teams also coming to the event from Saskatchewan and British Columbia.
