Alberta’s Danielle Smith tied for second-most popular premier

A new survey reveals Alberta’s premier is one of the most popular provincial leaders in Canada.

The Angus Reid Institute’s latest premier approval survey for September 2024 puts Manitoba’s Wab Kinew is the country’s most popular premier with an approval rating of 66 per cent.

After that, there is a three-way tie for second place.

An equal 46 per cent of respondents say they approve of Danielle Smith of Alberta, Andrew Furey of Newfoundland and Labrador and David Eby of British .

Scott Moe of Saskatchwan is a single percentage point behind Smith, Furey and Eby at 45 per cent.

Smith’s approval rating has been fairly consistent since being sworn in as premier in October 2022, ranging from 42-47 per cent.

Her most recent number is up by one per cent compared to Angus Reid’s previous poll in June this year.

Among the 398 Albertans who were surveyed, 20 per cent said they strongly approve of Smith’s work as premier, 26 per cent moderately approve, 11 per cent moderately disapprove and 35 strongly disapprove.

A total of 3,985 Canadian adults were polled through an online survey from Sept. 12-18, 2024.
