Saskatchewan rainfall warning continues

Sep 18, 2024 | 8:55 AM

A rainfall warning for a wide swath of southwest Saskatchewan, from Leader south to the U.S. border and east to Swift Current, is continuing Wednesday evening.

A system from Montana is forecast to dump 40 millimetres to 60 millimetres of rain over that area by Thursday, with higher amounts over the Cypress Hills.

Environment Canada’s warning mentions the possibility of heavy downpours that can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.

Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.

Heavy rainfall in combination with other weather factors, such as hail, wind and lightning will make outdoor activities unsafe.

If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance. Watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts. Rainfall warnings are issued when significant rainfall is expected.

There are no warnings in place for Alberta locations.
