‘Everyone’s welcome’: Community classic car meet on Wednesdays a ‘fun time’

Sep 8, 2024 | 12:40 PM

It’s a growing community and welcome environment.

The Wednesday classic car meetups in the Medicine Hat Mall parking lot features beautiful cars and people happy to talk about them.

Stan O’Conner brings his 1968 Impala Coupe, which he’s had since 54 years and originally came from a deadership in Medicine Hat.

“Everyone’s welcome, they can come and visit with people, you’re welcome to look at the vehicles, you’re welcome to talk to the people,” O’Conner said.

“They’ll give you info on their vehicle and probably tell you to come to a car show or two.”

Others, like Royce Arnott, have a unique vehicle that was very popular on a recent Wednesday evening.

He combined a 1953 Chevrolet cab-over-engine with a 1986 Alfa milk truck chassis to haul his other classic vehicle, a 1957 wagon.

“There’s no reason not to come out, no good reason,” Arnott said.

There’s even a few newer cars.

Don Collier brought his 717 horsepower 2019 Dodge Challenger Hellcat.

He’s been coming for five years to the Wednesday meets and said it’s a great atmosphere.

“It’s good, it’s friendly, everybody’s welcome,” Collier said.

“You can have Japanese cars, even electric cars, doesn’t matter what you’ve got, as long as you’ve got a car, truck doesn’t matter,” he added.

“Everybody’s welcoming, it’s a fun time. You can park up and have fun.”
