Discord users tipped off FBI last year about suspect in Georgia school shooting, report says
WINDER, Ga. (AP) — Users of the social media site Discord tipped off the FBI last year about the teenager charged with opening fire at a Georgia high school, a sheriff’s report said.
A sheriff’s investigator from nearby Jackson County, Georgia, received a tip from the FBI in May 2023 that the teenager suspected in Wednesday’s shooting “had possibly threatened to shoot up a middle school tomorrow.”
The tip came to the FBI from people in Australia and Los Angeles who were concerned about comments made by a chat group user on Discord, according to a Jackson County sheriff’s report obtained by The Associated Press.
When asked about the threat, the teen told a sheriff’s investigator that he “would never say such a thing, even in a joking manner,” the report said.
