Top 5 things to do at the Medicine Hat Public Library in August

Aug 1, 2024 | 9:24 AM

The library is a wonderful place to find new books, but there’s more going on than just flipping through pages.

Here are the top five things to do at the Medicine Hat Public Library in August 2024:

Honeycomb House Weeks

August

Teens can drop in for Zine Week (Aug. 6-10), Perler Bead & Button Week (Aug. 13-17), Music Bookmark Week (Aug. 20-24) and Recycling Week (Aug. 27-31) to beat the summer blues.

International Youth Day

Aug. 12, 1 p.m.

This will be at this fun celebration for youth from eight to 17 years old.

Traditional gym games, a foam dance party, a slip and slide and more will be part of the free event.

Christoper Cool

Aug. 13, 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Calgary-based magician Christopher Cool is bringing a brand-new show that guarantees fun for the whole family.

Last year’s show was standing-room-only so we’re presenting two shows this year.

Cool says this time around the show has more magic, more comedy and more rubber chickens than ever before, and is more interactive.

Reconnecting to Play: It’s Not Just for Kids

Aug. 13, 20 and 26, 6 p.m.

Adults will have a blast with activities like giant parachute games, Nerf wars and “reverse hide-and-seek” after hours at the library.

Among other benefits, play is good for your health, builds creativity and improves relationships. It’s also just plain fun.

Registration is required.

Bzzy Bees Scavenger Hunt

Aug. 24-31

Kids 12 years and under can go on a bee-u-tiful scavenger hunt in our Kinsmen Children’s Library to wrap up the summer.

Pick up an Olympic Reading Challenge booklet during the 2024 Paris Olympic Games and complete as many challenges as you can.

Return your booklet at the end of the Olympics to be entered in the grand prize draw.
