Alberta funding study on how to support Agricultural societies

Jul 31, 2024 | 2:40 PM

The Alberta government is providing funds to help support its seven regional agricultural societies.

The seven regions are in Camrose, Grande Prairie, Lethbridge, Lloydminster, Medicine Hat, Olds and Red Deer. The societies help develop educational programs, organize major community or special events and provide services based on community needs.

A study is being funded so they can receive recommendations on how the province can best support the seven regional societies.

As part of Budget 2024-25, the province provided $11.5 million for the Agricultural Societies Grant Program, which includes $2.8 million going towards the societies.

Funding also goes towards major repairs to infrastructure through the Agricultural Societies Infrastructure Revitalization Program.

The study will be funded through the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership’s (Sustainable CAP) Resiliency and Public Trust program.

Alberta currently has 291 agricultural societies, the most in Canada.
