Quonset Days concert festival this weekend near Seven Persons

Quonset Days began in 2010 as a small concert fundraiser for Amyotropic lateral sclerosis (ALS) also know as Lou Gehrig’s disease, and has grown to a large concert event as a tribute to Peter Biemans who passed away from the disease in August 2009.

Trevor Biemans the son of Peter is a co-founder of Quonset Days, said it all started when they decided to gather all the neighbors and the friends they could find for the first event.

“We had a little fundraiser that at that point was 150 people raising $8,500 to something that takes all year to plan now,” Biemans said.

“We’re consistently raising $100,000 between our two events in this one and our fall and spring event.”

Biemans is quite happy with the lineup for this years concert weekend.

“I like to think we have a good lineup every year, we try and mix in a smattering of local bands. We have Pheonix, who’s been with us since the beginning. We have Danczilla, who’s another kind of rock band in Medicine Hat. We have Vanity Trip, Taking August, and Fox and the Hounds, all rounding on our local lineup,” Biemans said.

There are also the main acts coming in.

“We have Nice Horse and George Canyon following that on the Friday. Then on Saturday, after the local band start, we have Steven Lee Olsen going to kick off the big things, followed by a live auction, and Brett Kissel, who we’re obviously really excited to have come down to our small neck of the woods,” Biemans said.

As of Thursday tickets were still available online through QuonsetDays.com.

“They are a little bit more expensive now as the presale is all over, but you can still buy tickets for all individual days as well as weekend passes, Biemans said.

If you are wanting to know the ins and outs of the event Biemans recommends following their social media pages.

“We have a lot of tips and whatnot on there,” Biemans said.

“Use our free shuttle, it’s to and from Medicine Hat every 30 to 45 minutes. There’s no reason not to have a safe ride home. We use all the rideshare services. There’s cabs that come out here, all that sort of stuff,” he added.

“Anybody that’s coming out, just have fun with it. We have a live auction. We have a silent auction. Ritchie Brothers are helping us out with that this year. Anybody that’s going to come and enjoy that, download that app, and you can play around with that.”

Food trucks will also be on site.

Biemans said he hopes everyone enjoys the bands as they raise money for a good cause.
