Medicine Hat Tigers sign 15-year old defenseman Nieckar

The Medicine Hat Tigers have signed 15-year old defenseman Zach Nieckar of Sherwood Park, Alta., to a Western Hockey League Scholarship and Development Agreement.

Nieckar was drafted by the Tigers in the fifth round, 97th overall in the 2024 WHL Prospect Draft.

The 2009-born defender played in the Canada Sports School Hockey League during the 2023-24 season, putting up 16 points in 20 games.

Nieckar said it’s an exciting feeling to be joining the organization.

Bobby Fox, Tigers director of player personnel, said Nieckar checks plenty of boxes for the team when it comes to defending.
