Alberta Health Minister Adriana LaGrange, who is also MLA for Red Deer-North, is headed to California to showcase the province’s life sciences and biotechnology sectors.

LaGrange, along with Nate Glubish, Minister of Technology, will attend the BIO 2024 International Conference from June 3-6 in San Diego, according to a release from the province this week.

The conference brings together more than 20,000 industry leaders.

“We are building a new health care system that prioritizes patients and empowers health care professionals,” says LaGrange. “Albertans deserve the best health care possible, and we are eager to explore the best ways to work with the life sciences sector to ensure they receive it.”

Glubish says the opportunity to attend is a significant one.

“Alberta’s life sciences sector continues to produce outstanding companies that are using technology to solve health care problems in new, innovative ways,” says Glubish, MLA for Strathcona-Sherwood Park. “I’m excited to share this irresistible momentum at BIO 2024, and to encourage innovators from around the world to take a closer look at Alberta.”

The ministers will meet with business leaders, leading pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, and government representatives.

Representatives they’ll meet with include Vertex, BIOTEC Canada, the vice minister of health of Saudi Arabia, AbbVie, GSK, Entos, Roche, Novo Nordisk, Paladin Pharma, plus others.

Staff members from each ministry will also attend, with trip expenses posted on the province’s travel and expense disclosure page.
