Hatters Conquered the Coulee this weekend as runners partook in an obstacle course race Saturday and then a marathon race on Sunday.

The Union Trail race saw 56 runners while the obstacle course saw nearly 300.

Runner Corry Leduc was one of the few who participated in both events and took home gold in Conquer the Coulee.

“If you’re ever thinking about it and you’re scared to try it and you’re thinking ‘ah, I could never do that, it’s too far, you can even walk it. Get out, start walking. There’s learn to run programs, the Mad Hatters have a learn to run program. Just start with that,” Leduc said.

“Grab a friend, go out and challenge each other. Basically if you can get into a group of people and just challenge each other, it’s a lot of fun,” he said.

Conquer the Coulee celebrated their 9th year.

Tire drills, climbing over walls and crawling through sand were some of the obstacles this year.

While the turnout was down compared to last year, organizer Randy Siedlecki said that she was still proud of those who turned up and aims to get more Hatters off the couch this summer.

“The community should embrace is because it’s something good for family fun. It’s very economical family fun,” Siedlecki said.

“It’s a good way for families just to get out and get physical activity and our big thing is healthy living and trying different things,” she said.

The next time Hatters can challenge their abilities will be for the Union All-Terrain obstacle course race Aug 3.
